About our ILD Center Staff
Glenn Rosen MD Associate Professor of Medicine, and Acting Co-Chief of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division, is the Director of our Center for Interstitial Lung Disease. Dr. Rosen ‘s laboratory research is focused on understanding the chemical pathways and signaling mechanisms that lead to the formation of scar tissue, or fibrosis, in the lung. His work in furthering the understanding of the mechanisms and causes of these fibrotic diseases is critical to the development of novel, effective treatments. Dr. Rosen has been on the scientific advisory board of the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis and provides lectures, consultation, and web seminars as a resource for other physicians who care for patients with pulmonary fibrosis. Over the past 10 years, he has been the Principal Investigator for numerous clinical trials testing new treatments for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).
Paul Mohabir MD Clinical Assistant Professor, is one of our pulmonary specialists in the ILD clinic. He has a particular interest in the relationship of GERD, or Gastro-Esophageal Reflux, and Interstitial Lung Disease, as well as alternative treatments for chronic cough. Dr. Mohabir is also an Intensive Care physician who spends a portion of his time caring for critically ill medical and surgical patients. In addition, he is the Outpatient Director of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program, where he cares for patients with chronic lung diseases secondary to genetic defects.
Tushar Desai MD Instructor, is one of our ILD pulmonary specialists who manages clinic patients. In addition, Dr. Desai conducts his own laboratory research related to the development of the gas exchange region of the lung, which is the primary site of disease in ILD patients.
Virginia Adi RN, CH is the Nurse Coordinator for our ILD clinic. She was formerly the Charge Nurse for the Chest Clinic for 15 years. Virginia grew up in a large medical family in Palo Alto. She completed her nursing training under the rigors of St. Luke’s Hospital Episcopal School of Nursing in 1980, and did most of her early nursing work in rehabilitation hospitals and internal medicine. She is also certified as a Family Herbalist and is pursuing a Master Herbalist program.
Susan Jacobs RN, MS coordinates clinical research trials and the Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group for our ILD program. Susan received her undergraduate Nursing degree from California State University at Chico and her Masters in Pulmonary Nursing from the University of California - San Francisco (UCSF). She worked at the bedside in Intensive Care Units for many years and then as an educator, including her role as Education Coordinator in the Critical Care Units at Stanford. In addition to her Critical Care background, Susan coordinated the outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation program and Inpatient Ventilator "Wean Team" at Seton Medical Center in Daly City, CA for five years. Her research background includes two years as a Research Nurse in Pulmonary Medicine at the Palo Alto VA Hospital, and Project Director for a National Institutes of Health-sponsored study examining Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and exercise at UCSF. She has been with the Pulmonary Division at Stanford since 1996.
Tessa Hunter BS is the Clinical Research Assistant in the Pulmonary Division. In this role, she assists with regulatory oversight and coordination of clinical trials. Tessa has been instrumental in the creation and maintenance of our ILD database, which is critical to the administrative, clinical, and research support of the ILD program. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from McMaster University in Canada, and is a graduate of the Clinical Trials Design and Management program at the University of California - Santa Cruz. In addition to her clinical trials management experience, Tessa has a background in sales and marketing for pharmaceutical companies in the U.K., and product support for a medical device company in Silicon Valley.
