Patient Care
Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) physicians consult on inpatients with lung disease at Stanford University Medical Center, the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. They also participate in the care of critically ill patients in intensive care units.
The Stanford Chest Clinic features a first-class nursing staff and pulmonary function testing laboratory, excellent respiratory therapists, and state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures in therapeutic fiberoptic bronchoscopy.
Physicians in the Chest Clinic are specialists in evaluating and treating patients with diseases including:
Asthma
Bronchiectasis
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Cystic Fibrosis (CF)
Emphysema
Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILD) including Pulmonary Fibrosis and BOOP
Lung Cancer
Lung and Heart-Lung Transplantation
Lymphangiomyomatosis (LAM)
Mycobacterial infections including non-tuberculous mycobacteria as well as tuberculosis
Occupational Respiratory Diseases including asbestosis
Pneumonia
Pulmonary complications of AIDS
Pulmonary thromboembolic disease
Pulmonary hypertension
Pulmonary physicians and research nurses are also involved in laboratory studies that are directly related to finding treatments for these diseases.
Pre-evaluations of heart-lung and lung transplant patients and post-operative medical care, as well as intensive care services, are available for patients with end-stage lung disease and other chronic ailments. Consultation can be provided through the Stanford Transfer Center for critically ill patients requiring ventilator support or invasive line management. Transport services can be arranged through the Transfer Center.
